WattCycle LiFePO4 Battery With Bluetooth - Product Review and Test
There are many batteries on the market that claim they can do this and that, but until now, you couldn’t actually see for yourself. Thanks to the innovative Bluetooth monitoring system, WattCycle has moved to the front of the pack in lightweight portable batteries. Not only can you see the current charge, but you can also monitor individual cell charge, temperatures, and load/charge amperage—all in real time! What does this mean? It means you can confidently head out knowing your power source and lifeline are in top shape, ready to power what needs to be powered.
Real-World Testing: Performance and Durability
Over the last few weeks, I tested this theory by subjecting the 100Ah mini with Bluetooth to some extreme conditions. Here are the detailed results:
Baseline Test at Room Temperature
As a baseline, I tested the battery’s capacity at room temperature. The setup involved running my Icom 7300 on digital FT8 mode at 50W, calling CQ every 30 seconds and receiving the other 30 seconds. The results were impressive:
Power Draw: 12 amps on transmit and 1 amp on receive.
Duration: The battery lasted over 18 hours while maintaining a voltage above 12.9V.
Output: Over 300 QSOs were logged during this period.
Extreme Cold Test (-30°C)
The second test involved exposing the battery to freezing temperatures (-30°C). This is where the Bluetooth monitoring system truly shined. Knowing exactly what’s happening inside the battery is invaluable. Here’s what I observed:
The internal temperature took over 6 hours to reach the matching -30°C of the outside environment. This delay is critical as the Battery Management System (BMS) will shut down to protect the battery when frozen.
After leaving the battery outside overnight, the BMS shut it down, and I was unable to charge it initially. However, after just one hour indoors, the battery came back to life.
Remarkably, no significant charge loss occurred during the freeze cycle. This demonstrates the battery’s excellent insulation and BMS design.
I repeated the same FT8 test as before, and the results were nearly identical to the baseline test, confirming the battery’s resilience in extreme cold.
Conclusion
WattCycle has delivered one of the best batteries at one of the most competitive prices in the industry. The Bluetooth feature is a game-changer, providing real-time data that enhances the user experience and adds a crucial layer of security. Whether you’re an avid outdoors enthusiast or rely on reliable power for your equipment, this battery will not disappoint.
