Extreme Cold Test (-30°C)

The second test involved exposing the battery to freezing temperatures (-30°C). This is where the Bluetooth monitoring system truly shined. Knowing exactly what’s happening inside the battery is invaluable. Here’s what I observed:

  • The internal temperature took over 6 hours to reach the matching -30°C of the outside environment. This delay is critical as the Battery Management System (BMS) will shut down to protect the battery when frozen.

  • After leaving the battery outside overnight, the BMS shut it down, and I was unable to charge it initially. However, after just one hour indoors, the battery came back to life.

  • Remarkably, no significant charge loss occurred during the freeze cycle. This demonstrates the battery’s excellent insulation and BMS design.

I repeated the same FT8 test as before, and the results were nearly identical to the baseline test, confirming the battery’s resilience in extreme cold.
